Build a jiu-jitsu game you can explain
Over four days of instruction, you’ll work through how a game is put together, then build one of your own. You’ll spend time on:
- Figuring out what a game is, and what yours looks like.
- Getting from the feet to the position you want, with guard pulls and takedowns.
- Forcing the guard you want to pass, then passing it.
- Choosing a guard and advancing your position from it.
- Kill positions, submissions and finishing combos.
- On an optional fifth day, refining your game with active feedback during rolls.
What you’ll take home
- A clear answer to “what’s my game?”
- A plan for getting from standing to the positions you play best
- Finishing combos to drill when you’re back at your own gym
Day 4 ends with troubleshooting, and the optional fifth day adds active feedback during rolls, so you leave knowing where your game still has gaps and what to work on next.
INTRODUCING
Camp Kintanon: BJJ Mental Models Winter Camp 2027
How the camp is built
Each of the first four days has a morning session and an afternoon session. The camp runs in the order you’d build a game:
- Work out what your game is
- Get it started from the feet
- Pass, attack from guard, and finish
- Put it all together and troubleshoot it
- Refine it with active feedback during rolls (optional day 5)
By the last day, every piece you’ve worked on should connect to the others.
The Schedule
DAY 1
Finding your game
- Morning: What’s a game? What’s my game?
- Afternoon: Standing grips and transitions (guard pulls and takedowns)
DAY 2
Passing and attacking from guard
- Morning: Passing the guard (how to force the guard you want, and then pass it)
- Afternoon: Attacking from guard (choose a guard and advance your position from it)
DAY 3
Finishing
- Morning: Kill positions and submissions
- Afternoon: Finishing combos
DAY 4
Putting it all together
- Morning: Putting it all together
- Afternoon: Troubleshooting your game
DAY 5 (OPTIONAL)
Development workshop and rolling marathon
- Refining your game with active feedback during rolls.
This camp is for you if…
- You know plenty of techniques but couldn’t say what your game is
- You often end up in positions you didn’t choose
- You get to good positions but struggle to finish from them
- You want a plan you can take back to your gym and train
HEAD COACH
Josh “Kintanon” Wentworth
Josh has spent years working out how a smaller, weaker, older grappler can make jiu-jitsu work against people who are bigger, stronger and more athletic.
He’s the author of two BJJ Mental Models courses: Jiu-Jitsu for Hobbits, on how to survive and succeed at jiu-jitsu when you’re small, weak, unathletic and injury-averse, and Gameplanning for Hobbits, where he walks through the gameplans he builds for that problem.
